Youngsville is a small and beautiful city in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, United States and part of the Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. This is where Dudley J. LeBlanc was born. He was the entrepreneur of the Hadacol fortune during the 1950s.

History

In the 19th century George Roy and Desire, his son, founded the area and named it “Royville”. In 1859, the population grew and the first Catholic Church was established – the St. Anne Catholic Church and Church Street, the oldest street. Today, the St. Ann Catholic Church is named as one of the oldest Catholic churches in Lafayette Parish. In 1908, the Unites Stated Postal Service asked if the name can be changed because it is confusing to the northern Louisiana town. The people chose “Youngsville” which simply means young village and they chose a democratic government.

The village became a town under the Louisiana Governor David C. Treen in January 20, 1983.

From 1990 to 2000, the population in Youngsville increased by 300 percent. According to 2010 census, the population rate increase was 103 percent in just ten years (2000-2010). It was then declared a city under Governor Kathleen Blanco in 2006. It became one of the fast-growing municipalities in Louisiana from 2000 to 2007.

Through the years, the “young village” grew and became progressive but still it is considered a rural city with sugarcane farms.

Infrastructure

The government of Youngsville began the construction of Chemin Metairie Parkway Project in 2007 to improve public roads around the city. Also projects such as Sugar Mill Pond development and shopping complex which will become the Lafayette Parish’s first Rouse’s Grocery Store. Also Youngsville is the first community in Lafayette Parish that utilizes traffic circles to resolve the city’s growing traffic.

This quiet and humble town in the South of Louisiana eventually became one of the model cities in the state.  People in Youngsville are really proud of what this city has achieved so far. In Youngsville, you can feel a different ambiance of urban area.
