Lafayette is a city that sits at the Vermilion River in southwestern part of Louisiana and considered on the top 5 list of the largest cities in the state of Louisiana, USA. It is situated in the West Gulf Coastal Plain. It was then just a portion of the seabed during the Quaternary Period. At this period, Mississippi River cuts a deep line in the valley where Baton Rouge and Lafayette are now located. The space is now filled with water and now called the Atchafalaya Basin and on the west part of the valley Lafayette sits. This valley is called the Southwestern Louisiana Prairie Terrace and not much of a wetland which is why Lafayette does not have flooding issues.

Louisiana is very famous for its delicious foods, great music and colorful festivals. It is also a home for a lot of historical attractions, beautiful gardens, wide plantation homes and leisure swamps and museums. The museum preserves the most precious artifacts that tell the story of the rich history of South Louisiana. They also hold world-class exhibits and provide fun activities for children to learn about the history of the place.

Lafayette is also a home for the many sports activities which is why it called the “The Sportsman’s Paradise”. Since they have a beautiful warm weather all-year round, you and your family can enjoy activities such as bird watching, canoe trips, biking and hiking trails and even golf courses. With bayous and swamps that surround the city, there are many outdoor activities to choose from.

The Cajun County in Lafayette also celebrates its holiday season for the entire month of December. The Acadiana offers residents of Lafayette colorful Christmas lightings, parades and other holiday events. This festival is named as “A Cajun and Creole Christmas” and voted as one of the top 20 must-see December Events by the Southeast Tourism Society.

With a wonderful weather, many outdoor activities to choose from and a festive holiday event, Lafayette should be on the list of your must-see destination. This town is definitely worth it!
